The new dock-connecting accessory works with the company’s ZoomIt application that provides access to content stored on SD cards. Support is offered for all file types recognized by iPhone OS 3.0, ranging from photos and videos to PowerPoint documents. The accessory allows users to upload all stored media for use at a later time, or share files with other users via e-mail, Facebook or Flickr.

nova media has released a new sync application for the Mac, FoneSync for LG phones. The utility syncs Address Book and iCal information with a variety of LG devices. Support is currently present for just the HB620T, KF750 and KU990, but more models should be added in the future. In hopes of speeding up the the process a free tool has been released that checks if a phone can be added. FoneSync for LG phones is available online for $20, and requires Mac OS X 10.5.8 or 10.6.1, plus a Bluetooth-enabled Mac.

iPhone 3.1.3 causing battery, playlist problems?

The iPhone 3.1.3 firmware has introduced problems for some people even as it has fixed them for others, say complaints on Apple's support forums. Most critical is an issue with battery life, which can suddenly become erratic. A phone's battery meter may potentially swing wildly, for instance going from 25 to 7 to 10 percent, then jumping back up to 24 percent.

PwnageTool 3.1.5 adds iPhone 3.1.3 support

The unofficial iPhone Dev Team has released PwnageTool 3.1.5, an updated version of its jailbreaking tool for iPhones and iPod touches. As is normal with Apple firmware, the official iPhone 3.1.3 distribution undoes any jailbreaking or unlocking if installed on top of hacked v3.1.2 code. The PwnageTool update allows some devices to retain their hacks while gaining the advantages of the new firmware.

The release of the promised Logitech SqueezeBox Touch has again been delayed, according to a Thursday post by a Slim Devices developer on the official Logitech forum board. The last delay promised the touch media server would arrive this month, and Logitech is still keeping mum about why the device has been delayed. Forum members speculate Logitech ran into major software or hardware problems.

The Consumer Electronics Association has announced that the 2011 CES iLounge Pavilion will feature the largest display of iPod, iPhone, iPad, and Mac related products and services in the shows history. The iLounge Pavilion was a new addition to this year's exhibition, with more than 100 companies. For next year's show, the Pavilion will feature 50,000 square feet of floor space with companies such as iSkin, Mophie, and Scosche displaying new products. The 2011 show will take place in Las Vegas from January 6th to 9th.

Needham: 2 million iPads in 2010, 6 million in 2011

Apple will likely sell 2 million iPads in FY 2010, with another 6 million coming in 2011, says Needham & Co. analyst Charlie Wolf. The firm has completed its first assessment of the tablet's potential, which is said to founded on several assumptions. Because of a $500 base price, the iPad is expected to attract a "non-trivial" number of the 75 million iPhone and iPod touch owners in existence, as well as more buyers in the form of netbook shoppers, schools and hospitals.

Scosche solBAT II gives iPhones, more a solar backup

Accessory maker Scosche today put out the solBAT II as its second wave of solar-powered external batteries. The pack gives iPhones, iPods and most handheld USB devices a 1,500mAh lithium-ion pack whose sun recharging lets it provide "free" energy to keep a device going. A single charge is estimated to be enough to power a typical cellphone twice over, though it's not known how efficiently it works for smartphones; Scosche says the add-on behaves like a maximum 5V wall adapter.

Both the PwnageTool and redsn0w tools are noted to be incompatible with v3.1.3, with the exception of the latter when jailbreaking a first-generation iPhone or Touch. In those cases, users can point the software to an existing v3.1.2 IPSW.

Gameloft claims $25 million in 2009 App Store sales

French developer and publisher Gameloft generated $25 million off the App Store in 2009, according to the company's newly-released financial statement for the period. The figure represents a 231 percent increase year-over-year, and helped to push the company's mobile sales up by 12 percent. This in turn helped to boost the company's overall revenue, which was up 11 percent to about $170 million.

Sony may "reboot" PSP Go in face of poor sales

Sony may be close to holding a 'second launch' for the PSP Go to shore up its sales, a claimed leak indicates today. The gaming giant is supposedly unhappy with the slump in performance of the redesigned console and is gearing up for a second marketing campaign. Other steps are said on the table and are speculated by Gamervision to include a price cut from the current $250 price tag.

Apple has pushed a new firmware update, v3.1.3, out to iPhone and iPod touch owners. The release is a minor one, fixing bugs rather than adding any substantial features. Key among the changes is better battery meter accuracy for the iPhone 3GS, addressing a long-standing complaint. Also fixed are crashes when using the Japanese Kana keyboard, and a problem preventing third-party apps from launching.

Apple forces Stanza creator to pull USB book sharing

Lexcycle's Stanza e-book reader for the iPhone and iPod touch has been stripped of USB book sharing, at the request of Apple, the developer says. Stanza 2.1 is now being distributed through the App Store, and makes the removal of USB sharing the only change. App owners were previously able to transfer ePub or eReader books into Stanza through a USB cable.

Monster chose the weekend to launch another in its line of artist-influenced Beats headphones, this time unveiling the Diddybeats. As suggested by the name, they take their cue from Sean Combs and are a more masculine counterpart to Lady Gaga's Heartbeats: the in-ears are housed in aluminum and wrapped in leather that gives them a relatively upscale design. They also draw on the signature flat cables that cut down on tangles or breaks.

Former Facebook app dev touts iPad as better platform

Apple unveils iPad tablet starting $499, ships in 60 days

After much speculation Apple has officially announced the iPad, the company's first tablet device. The hardware resembles an oversized iPhone, but uses a dramatically altered version of the iPhone interface, borrowing tropes from Mac OS X such as a Dock, floating windows and a desktop background. Apps on the device are much more elaborate, for instance allowing Mail to display both a list of messages and a preview pane at the same time, or Calendar to show an entire month.

iPhone Developer Center undergoes temporary downtime

The iPhone Developer Center was temporarily unavailable on Wednesday morning, accounts say. Although once again active as of this writing, earlier visitors to the site are reported to have seen Apple's standard "we'll be back soon" graphic, and been unable to access normal developer services. The Center would normally allow developers to check on their App Store submissions.

iPhone dev agreement accidentally mentions Jan. 27 event

Apple has let slip a reference to an important iPhone OS announcement, multiple sources confirm. People signing up for the iPhone Developer Program in the past day have noticed an oddity in the service's licensing agreement. Rather than showing a proper set of legal disclaimers, the agreement containts the text "Place holder Agreement - Need to update this for the 27th launch," followed by "Rev. 01-27-10."

SwitchEasy releases NUDE cases for iPhones, iPods

SwitchEasy has released the NUDE, a new case design for iPhones and iPod touches. The model is a polycarbonate case, approximately 0.8mm thick. It uses scratch-resistant coating for additional protection, and provides access to all of a handheld's ports and controls.

Flight Control exceeds 2 million in app sales

Firemint has announced that Flight Control, its game for the iPhone and iPod touch, has exceeded over 2 million in sales. Originally released on March 5th of last year, the app is claimed to have surpassed its first million sales within three months, and hit the 2 million mark on January 23rd of this year. During its climb the app has held the number-one selling position in at least 20 different countries including Canada, Japan and the US.

Air New Zealand flights to have iPod jacks, power

As part of its long-term and comprehensive aircraft revamp, Air New Zealand has added PC power, USB and iPod connections to its economy seats, along with an improved sleep pillow. Fliers making the long, 12-hour flights from California to Auckland will now be able to charge notebooks, smartphones and other devices for most of the trip.
