Sept. 9th iPod event a go

Through an e-mail invitation, Apple has confirmed plans for a music-related related press event, scheduled for September 9th. Little official is known about Apple's plans, but the event will be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. It should also focus on iPods, given the presence of an iPod touch silhouette in invitation art.

While Apple has regularly announced new iPods in September, expectations are elevated at the moment due to unusual rumors. It is thought that the Touch, Nano and even Classic may be gaining cameras, enabling photo and/or video functions. The Nano may adopt a taller screen, and it is likely that most iPods (excluding the Shuffle) will be given better storage capacities. The event could moreover see the announcement of iTunes 9, said to support Blu-ray, social networking and possibly even third-party device sync.

Considered less likely is the introduction of Apple's tablet device. Though described by some as resembling an oversized iPod touch, it may be considered too general-purpose to be revealed under a music theme. The most probable release timeframe is believed to be the first quarter of next year.

    B4E?

9/9/09 is also the Beatles album reissue day. The original Apple's big day too. Maybe related?

    Steve Jobs is too busy

working on the imminent tablet to attend. Yeah, like I really know anything. I just hope if Steve Jobs does give the keynote, he'd better have a few more pounds than what he had the last keynote, or it will be death watch rumors all over again. I'm looking forward to an official ChiPhone announcement and his personal assurance that the Chinese are eager to buy iPhones in huge quantities.

    I'm guessing no Beatles..

If they are gonna use a Stones lyric to annouce this event, I'm guessing the Beatles aren't going to be playing a prominent part in the event. If anything, it seems like a bit of a smack to the Beatles to use a Stones lyric so prominently.

    Re: Steve jobs

No, if he's got more weight on him, the "OMG! Steve's overweight! He's putting on too many pounds!" "I eat when I'm depressed. Do you think he's depressed? Maybe even suicidal? He does where a lot of black, you know." "Oh, he really needs to lose some weight. He looks 3 pounds over his ideal weight. Carrying that much of a load, he'll die of a heart attack any day now!" talk will begin.

    then again

If he doesn't show up, the "Steve's on death's door again! The liver is failing him!" talk will begin as well.

Man, it's almost like Steve can't win...

    Beatles, maybe?

I'm intrigued by the fact that 9 September is also the date of the massive Beatles re-release and The Beatles: Rock Band (see http://www.thebeatles.com/). Wouldn't Apple's PRs have advised against 9/11 for a publicity event simply because the media will be pre-occupied with the anniversary? If there is a connection, quoting the Stones in the title of the event becomes a masterpiece of disinformation.

Here's hoping for the full 13-album set at a really keen price, and Paul and Ringo showing up to play at the event. In those circumstances, you couldn't keep Steve away!
