Maxtor has unveiled the Ultra ATA/133 hard drive interface specification, which is capable of transferring data at 133 megabytes per second. Adaptec, Agere Systems, and Pacific Digital are among the first drive and adapter manufacturers to promise products based on the new standard. Maxtor expects widespread adoption of the Ultra ATA/133 standard in desktop systems during the beginning of 2002. Apple currently uses an Ultra ATA interface in its Power Mac G4 line.
osx.macnn.com reports on Kayadara's first Mac release of its 3D content creation tool FiLMBOX 3.0, OmniWeb 4.0.3, Pocket Notes 1.0b2, and Carbonized drivers for Griffin's iMate USB to ADB adapter.
Seek Systems two new accelerated storage configurations that the company says are meant "to respond to the CPU speeds of new Mac G4 technologies." MacRAID-S and MacRAID-L offer 365 GB and 1.2 TB of storage and are priced at $25,000 and $50,000, respectively. Both solutions include Adaptive Cache technology which Seek says utilizes AltiVec routines in the G4.
QiPo 1.2, short for "QuickTime in, Preview Out" adds several enhancements to the QuickTime movie preview generator. The new release removes AppleScript dependencies for better performance, decreases memory requirements, and adds QuickTime 5 support.
ATI has begun shipping the Xclaim TV USB edition, an external TV tuner now compatible with the Mac and priced at $99. The device allows users to watch TV through plugging an external source into the USB port, and features channel preview, parental controls, and the ability to operate in the background.
Mactracker 1.1, which will ship in August, is the latest release of Ian Page's Macintosh information database that includes specs on virtually all Macs ever made. The new release will sport the ability to add custom notes to models, and information on CPU upgrades. Both Classic and OS X versions of Mactracker 1.1 will be offered.
