CanoScan FS2720U debuts

Canon has introduced the CanoScan FS2720U, a High-Speed Film Scanner For 35mm And Advanced Photo System Film formats. The CanoScan FS2720U offers a maximum scanning speed of 10 seconds per frame, 2,720 dpi optical resolution, 12-bit RGB input and output, and the ability to accept slides or negatives, color or black-and-white in either the 35mm or APS formats. The new scanner will be available beginning in September with USB connectivity at a suggested list price of $599. Canon will offer OS 9 drivers with the device.

VistaPro 3.0 offers 3D landscaping

VistaPro 3.0 is an upcoming landscape generating program that uses DEMs (Digital Elevation Maps) to turn 2D topographical data, into 3D terrains. The tool will be coming to the Macintosh for the first time in a new release from MonkeyByte Software.

Be-Accountable 2.0 is a $149 tool aimed at graphics design and PR firms for managing projects so they can "be accountable" for time and resources spent on client projects. Be-Accountable supports from one to 50 users and requires FileMaker Pro 5.0 or higher.

Yesterday Intuit began shipping Quicken 2002 for Classic and Mac OS X. Other reports included Palm's acquisition of Be, skyrocketing sales of memory and LCDs, Sorenson's Ultimate Streaming Seminar, record NVIDIA earnings, Formac's 24x10x40 CD-RW FireWire drive, Canadian Apple Demo Days, AT&T-branded CD-R/RW media, new Apple AirPort models featuring 128-bit encryption, shipment of ACTION GoMac 2.1, price drops on Sonnet G3/G4 upgrades, and Black & White for the Mac. Software releases included Sophos Anti-virus 3.48 Beta, MacMAME 0.53, and A Better Finder Rename 4.0PR1.
