Digital Lifestyle Outfitters (DLO) today introduced the DLO USB Dock Cable for iPod shuffle. The DLO USB Dock Cable is a 4-foot USB cable that allows an iPod shuffle to connect conveniently to any computer, especially those with recessed or closely spaced USB ports. Unlike standard USB extension cables, it mounts to any surface and it features a connector that matches the iPod shuffle perfectly. The DLO USB Dock Cable for iPod shuffle costs $20 and is available immediately.
The San Francisco Chronicle is expanding its offerings of online content today by providing podcasts on its website. "We are pleased to provide this new way for Chronicle readers and Gate users to get useful and compelling information about the San Francisco Bay Area that they cannot find anywhere else," said Chronicle Executive Editor Phil Bronstein. "Whether it's about food, music or the story behind the story, we'll continue to use the latest technology to define this region and its unique character."
In a recent research note, investment analyst PiperJaffray speculates about the future of podcasting, which could be "going mainstream" now that iTunes 4.9 makes podcasts easily accessible. "iTunes Integration Could Be A Catalyst. Yesterday, Apple introduced iTunes 4.9 with podcasting. Podcasting is prominently featured within the new iTunes music store. We were surprised at the amount of podcasted content available in iTunes, and we would expect that the volume of podcast content in iTunes will grow significantly, given iTunes allows for posting of podcasts from the general public."
Steve Jobs says that Apple's is focused on growing its Mac business is as well as its iPod/iTunes market, following yesterday's announcements of a new color iPod line, reduced pricing, and iTunes 4.9 with podcasting features. In an interview with ABC.com, Jobs said that while podcasts are free, users should expect advertising 'tagged into them' into the coming months. Meanwhile, Jobs defended the company's dual focus on the iPod and the Mac: "Well, you know, all I can say is that our Macintosh computer sales are growing at— you know, three to four times the rate of the rest of the industry. And— we continue to be the leader in innovation. I think everybody's copying us. So— you know, we're working really hard to make the best personal computers in the world. And we're working very hard to make the best portable digital music players in the world. And I think both are very important to us."
