CNBC report: Nike+ is revolutionary

This evening on CNBC's, who first broke the story on the Nike and Apple alliance in May, "On The Money" they had an exclusive look at the Nike+iPod system. As MacNN reported earlier today, the new Nike+iPod Kit will be shipping tomorrow. According to CNBC, over 30 million Americans have taken up running as a sport and it is continuing to grow; over forty million running shoes were sold in the United States last year. The new system allows users to compare their statistics to their records or the records of their friends. The host Darren Rovell is an avid runner, he claims that this product could revolutionize the industry as it removes the need for treadmills to track statistics. He says that one of the most useful features is a built in voice that reads vital statistics to you by hitting the center button. He stated that, "This could really change the way people run, and the way people think about running." Neither company has plans for media buy, but instead both will rely on buzz to generate interest and sales. Below is a clip from the segment.

"he claims that this product could revolution the industry"

Unless the author is trying to revolutionize the word's use, "revolution" is not a verb.

Would this product benefit a crap runner like me? I'm a recovering fattie who has a hard time running 3 miles on the treadmill. Is it only for serious athletes, or could it help me improve?

What could it do for the skinny people that it couldn't do for you?

it's all about what's going to motivate you. Will having the iPod tell you how far you've gone and being able to track your daily progress get you running?

I'm right there with you. Running is not my favorite but as a former athlete who needs to get back on track, this may be the motivation that helps me. Now I just have to eat a little better :)

On a different note, I wonder if this keeps Apple from working with other shoe companies or is MS going to come out with their Reebok partnership.

I'd really love to listen to my iPod in the pool.

Just a thought. Really.

Why doesn't it work with the iPod video? I have alot of MP3's thats why I purchased the iPod video, I don't want to have to buy a nano.

Actually, I think Nike came up with the idea and approached Apple. If so, Nike probably has the patent on the idea. Consequently nobody else will be using the idea, including Apple with anybody else.

The product probably does not work with the Video iPod because Apple really does not want people running with it. Those hardrives really do not like it. Ask my iPod, which no longer works.

If running is your thing, go with the nano or shuffle.

I would love a fully waterproof/submersible iPod for use while swimming - I get very bored swimming up and down but if I could listen to music or podcasts it would really help pass the time.
