Visual Remote for iPod debuts
Advanced Technetix has unveiled its Visual Remote, a device for adjusting an iPod without taking it out of a bag or pocket. Buttons allow users to navigate menus and song playback, via a backlit LCD screen that runs out to a pair of earbuds, according to Electronista. The device draws power from the iPod's battery rather than an external supply, and although the current Remote is wired, Technetix promises a wireless model in the near future (pricing and availability were unavailable).

iLuv has begun shipping its i9200 speaker system. The main receiver features four vertically-mounted CD loaders and a CD changer, allowing audiophiles who prefer physical media to quickly exchange discs while keeping favorites close at hand, according to Electronista. Less conventional listeners can also play MP3 CDs or connect an iPod via a universal dock that supports all dockable iPods. The i9200 also integrates an AM/FM alarm clock radio, and includes auxiliary inputs for playing music from other audio devices. iLuv is shipping the i9200 in black or white for $250.

'Splash-proof' Hydra takes on Nano
Ultra has previewed the Hydra, a new splash-proof music player designed to withstand use at the beach or by the poolside that stands to compete with Apple's iPod nano. The new player is encased in rubber trim with a tight seal to prevent the occasional contact with water from damaging the electronics inside, and the rubber serves as a shock absorber when the player is accidentally dropped. The Hydra features MP3 and WMA playback, FM radio, and voice recording capability. The device is powered solely by rechargeable AAA batteries for up to eight hours of playback, according to Electronista, and is compatible with both Macs and Windows systems with drag-and-drop music transfers. The Hydra is expected to ship in 1GB ($40) and 2GB ($60) capacities next month. In contrast, Apple's 2GB second-generation iPod nano is priced at $150.
