Polk launches iPod, HD radio stereo systems

Polk on Thursday launched its new, mainstream Polk Audio Designs label with the miDock10, a high-performance speaker for all dockable iPods, and the miDock Studio which is larger and "more elegantly fits in with its supported fifth-generation iPods and iPod nanos," according to Electronista. The miDock10 stereo has two 3.25-inch, full-range drivers that produce higher-quality sound compared to most systems at its size and speaker unit is also transportable: in addition to featuring handles on either side for carrying, the miDock10 will work independently on eight C-cell batteries. It also features input and headphone jacks for alternate sources or headphones as well as a USB port for sycing to Macs and PCs.

Altec debuts portable iPod speaker system

Altec Lansing today debuted its iM600 portable iPod speaker system. The device features a built-in FM receiver, a remote control, and sound field expansion as well as an on-board rechargeable Lithium-ion battery boasting more than seven hours of battery life. Altec's iM600 puts out 16 watts of power, and folds down flat to the size of a small book when not in use. Custom-built dual 2-inch neodymium drivers are designed to produce smooth lows and sharp highs, while fingertip controls complement the integrated iPod docking station that flips open and closed for easier storage. Altec Lansing's inMotion iM600 is slated for shipment some time this month for $150.

iTunes adds "Live from Las Vegas" shows

The Palms Casino Resort today announced that it has teamed up with Apple's iTunes to offer music fans "Live from Las Vegas" performances including exclusive audio and video on the iTunes Store. The new $80 million concert theater is set to make its grand debut with a performance by Evanescence on March 17th, and "Evanescence: Live from Las Vegas" will be available exclusively on iTunes in the coming weeks with extended song lists and behind-the-scenes interviews for purchase and download. "We are thrilled to offer live performances from GRAMMY-winning artists such as Evanescence at The Pearl on the iTunes Store," said Palms owner George Maloof. "Not only is The Pearl the most stunning concert venue in the country, but it's the first major live music venue to be built from the ground up with iTunes in mind."

iTunes + Comic Relief to raise funds in UK

Apple UK has updated its iTunes website with iTunes + Comic Relief in an effort to raise funds for the Comic Relief British charity organization tomorrow. The charity enables UK residents to purchase and download videos, celebrity playlists, audiobooks, and podcasts by Comic Relief comedians. "Red Nose Day is back with The Big One — bigger and better than ever," says Apple on its iTunes website. "Now we've put the best of Comic Relief music and comedy all in one place — on iTunes. Behold a treasure trove of exciting and exclusive content, including Comic Relief singles through the ages, music videos, podcasts, audiobooks and celebrity playlists." iTunes customers can offer their support by purchasing the official charity single 'Walk This Way.'
