Led Zeppelin box up for pre-order on iTunes

A box set containing the entirety of Led Zeppelin's discography, "The Complete Led Zeppelin" (iTunes link), is now available for pre-order on the iTunes Store. Priced at $99, it includes 165 tracks divided into 13 albums, among them a new best-of piece called "Mothership." This is composed of tracks picked by Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones, and features popular songs such as "Kashmir" and "Whole Lotta Love." The albums of the compilation will be available together or separately starting on November 13th; by pre-ordering Complete or Mothership, buyers are entered to win two tickets to a London reunion concert, scheduled for November 26th. Airfare and hotel booking are included as part of the prize.

Just as many times as every other artist out there. Hell, there's some groups or artists that haven't played in 20 years and they do the same thing.

no, not really... most artists re-package the same old hits once or twice. Led Zep has, I think, issued at least three 'greatest hits' albums/CDs prior to this. The last one, I think, was "Remasters", also a box set (4 CDs). That's the one I own, and I see no reason to purchase them again!

'How Many More Times'? Well, since 'The Song Remains The Same' you can 'Ramble On' if you want but 'Hey, hey, What Can I Say'?

'Thank You'

The big classic rock artists and albums are proven money makers in ways that I am sure none of the players imagined when this stuff was released.

Evidence: Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" is one of the hottest items on both iTunes and Amazon MP3. One might have thought that EVERYBODY had this on CD already, but apparently there is still room to grow.

There are few albums with that kind of staying power, regardless of one's personal tastes. Zeppelin is one of the very few groups that can claim that stature a la Pink Floyd. I can almost guarantee that Zep IV will rank really high for months once released.

So while I don't really need another copy of this stuff, it will doubtless sell very well.

Oh, yeah, one other thing: Led Zeppelin was a crushingly good band. That helps.

but geez... how many Greatest Hits collections do we need?

Here's an idea: get some hot DJ to remix their greatest tunes, like Junkie XL did with Elvis.

(yes I know that they've been sampled by the Beasties and that awful, lazy bastard whose name I forget who sampled Kashmir. And by sampled, I mean, totally ripped off the hook and just rapped over it.)
