Norton Antivirus 11 ships
Symantec today released a new version of Norton Antivirus (site not updated) that is compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. The software features new vulnerability protection technology designed to prevent attacks occurring through applications connected to the internet. Norton AntiVirus 11 for Mac also includes a sleeker redesigned user interface alongside enhanced performance. The software is priced at $50 (system requirements were unavailable).
Mac users get 'just-in-time' security with automatic updates from Symantec's global security network. Norton AntiVirus 11 for Mac also incorporates discrete and less obtrusive security alerts, as well as automatic updates in the background.
Norton Antivirus 11 for Mac offers inclusive scanning to prevent Mac as well as PC-based viruses from spreading, performance engine improvements to ensure better compatibility with less impact on system startup, and the ability to access features via the Terminal using a command-line interface.

This just in:
Intego, makers of a Mac virus protection software, today announced the widespread release of a new virus. Dubbed "NAV.11", the virus is known to infect computers, cause disruptions to workflow, delete files without warning, and destroy overall system stability. The virus is also auto-updating, sometimes sitting behind-the-scenes on your computer for some time, then receiving an update that turns on its insidious payload.
Currently, the only suggested recourse is to attempt to remove all vestiges of it from your computer, possibly requiring a system wipe.

or did Symantec neglect to mention whether this is universal, or still PPC code running under Rosetta?
The rest of you can keep your heads in the sand until they barricade your section of the beach off, but security is not "just" about protecting "your" computer.
Antivirus software can help you to not pass on virus infected files and emails to coworkers/associates that aren't fortunate enough to have a Mac. :P ;)
That being said, I'm no friend of Symantec, and there are other solutions out there that may be a better fit for you. Just try to use some perspective, k?

There are NO confirmed case of viruses from users. Only "reported" case are from the ones selling protection. Seems like snake oil sales people from years ago. NO news here. Go back to your moma's basement and enjoy the millions of windows virus and worms.

flying meat does have a point about trying not to pass on virii to our poor windoze friends, but why give your hard earned money on a product that OS X does not inherintly need. we dont need real-time protection so why use something that is going to rob us of performance. if ur sending an attachment to those windows suckers, then just scan it using ClamXav (http://www.clamxav.com/)
