equinux updates Tube 2.0 TV software

Equinux today released The Tube 2.0, marking the second generation of its TV software for Mac with support for TubeTalk and BuddySurfing community-oriented features. TubeTalk enables TV viewers to chat with one another about the current program, while BuddySurfing enables users to follow others as they channel surf. The Tube 2.0 also simplifies the overall recording process, and provides a visible chatroom where all viewers can discuss programming while keeping tabs on how many viewers are currently watching the running program for each channel. The software is priced at $30, and is obtainable with a DVB-T (DTT) USB receiver TubeStick for $60.

"With TubeTalk, equinux brings the TV community together. For every running television program, there is a visible chat room, in which all viewers can use to chat with one another," says Equinux. "In the channel list, each viewer can see how many viewers are currently watching the running program for each channel, as well as when new messages are being sent. Each user can create their own profile, complete with user name, picture and status. The only thing needed to register is an equinux ID. To make it easier to find other users, you can search under all available profile information, allowing you to add your TV buddies to your TV buddy list."

The Tube 2.0 automatically stops recording as soon as a program finishes, and automatically removes any other shows in a scheduled time slow if a program is queued up for recording. Users can search by name or date with keywords in the description text to locate recordings, and the software offers Spotlight search support.
