'iPhone' places high in Google searches

Search terms involving the iPhone have placed extremely high in Google's 2007 rankings, the company has announced. As a part of its Zeitgeist 2007 report, it notes that "iphone" was the fastest-rising search term of the year, in the US and worldwide, beating out "badoo," "facebook" and numerous other competitors. The term also did reasonably well as one of the most popular news searches of the year, coming in at number six; "american idol," "youtube" and "britney spears" represented the top three.

An ignominious honor came from being the third most-used term associated with "lawsuit," most likely because of several possible results: cases relating to Wi-Fi, toxins, Visual Voicemail and exclusivity are all in progress. The iPhone was beaten only by suits relating to the movie Borat, and VoIP carrier Vonage, who has encountered problems with several major US companies.

The device was not the only Apple product to achieve a high ranking. iTunes remains the most searched-for software related to music, trumping both LimeWire and BitTorrent, the latter two being connected primarily with piracy. Music can, however, legitimately be bought and/or distributed through BitTorrent.

popularity is great for apple, but why the heck is Brit in the top searches? Why does ANYONE care about her?

No, sad is that, on Yahoo's main page this morning, there was an article about the most powerful BABIES! That's right, an actual article discussing celebrity babies and their power to rule the world.

Or, sad would be that 'youtube' is listed. Is this because so many people are too stupid to type youtube.com in an address bar, so they search Google for it?

But consider that American Idol is one of the top three. This is a show to push someone from being 'no one' to the 'britney spears'. So then people can watch with fascination as she falls.

But that's the celebrity-adoring world that we live in. Of course, on MacNN, people tend to be smart enough to avoid that celebrity, replacing it with adoration of 'apple', 'Steve Jobs', 'iPhone', 'iPod', etc.
