Fujitsu to demo new scanner at Macworld

Fujitsu has promised to showcase its newest ScanSnap Scanner for Mac at the Macworld 2008 Conference and Expo from January 14-18 in San Francisco, CA. The company also said it will announce a forthcoming device to address the mobile document imaging needs of the Mac community. Fujitsu's new ScanSnap S510M is one of the only single-pass duplex automatic document feeder (ADF) scanners available today for the Apple community, according to the company, and comes bundled with ABBYY FineReader 3.0 optical character recognition (OCR) software. Live demonstrations of the S510M will take place at booth no. S308.

"The S510M scanner enables users to convert documents into editable and searchable portable document format (PDF) files, all with the push of a button," Fujitsu said. "Additionally, with the bundled Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional, ScanSnap boasts flexible editing features including commenting and mark-up capabilities, enabling advanced collaboration."

The Fujitsu ScanSnap supports Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger as well as Apple's latest Mac OS X Leopard operating systems, and features an upright 'one-button' design with a 50-page ADF that allows users to scan at speeds up to 18 pages per minute (ppm) for single-sided documents or 36 images per minute (ipm) for double-sided documents.

This product has been out for a few months. In fact I even have one. So, it's unclear what is so new about it, but perhaps Fujitsu needs a real forum.

It's a nice device - worth the money.

I think you'll find that most media outlets announce announcements. It's a Mac product that will be demoes at MWSF next week.

If you don't care, don't read the article.

I have the predecessor to this unit, a ScanSnap [not sure the exact model number], and it is very nice. Incredibly fast, and very accurate. Biggest problem I have is occasional mis-feeds on the ADF.

i tried the s500m early last year BUT it had several shortcomings - great for simple stuff (A4) thou

anyway, i've been waiting for an upgrade so was pleased to see this article, however, fujitsu have removed all references in the video/tour to business card scanning that's available on the pc version of the 510?
