The company's announcement sent ripples through the mobile phone industry, defying many analyst predictions that Apple would dare to enter an already crowded and highly competitive market amongst top players like Nokia and Motorola.

Apple reported a whopping 270,000 iPhone sales within the first 30 hours of its release on launch weekend after cheers erupted in the streets, signaling the opening of Apple and AT&T store doors to vendor the handset.

Since its introduction, Apple had sold no less than 1.39 million iPhones when the company reported its 2007 fourth quarter earnings on October 22nd.
