Griffin debuts WindowSeat iPhone mount for dashboard

On the heels of its complete iPhone/iPod line-up, Griffin Technology on Tuesday announced WindowSeat, Griffin's windshield mount for iPhone. WindowSeat puts the device at eye level on a car's windshield with street maps, directions and more, safely in view and within reach. WindowSeat's mounting bracket holds the iPhone securely, while its corner-release tab lets you easily remove your device when you arrive at your destination. The high-grip silicone suction pad attaches to the windshield easily; it is made from high-grade, attractive and durable materials to compliment the vehicle's interior and withstand the temperature shifts and features quick, easy, and secure adjustments to viewing angle with swiveling ball-and-socket joints. It also be used in conjunction with Griffin's PowerJolt car charger for iPhone. WindowSeat for iPhone will be available in March for $20.

Why do they need to announce 2 months in advance something that is not available yet? I think it's a good product, but is not out yet!

I am really glad that Griffin is heading in this direction, however, I really hate that whole suction cup on the window idea. I have always thought that it looked really tacky. I would love to see someone produce an iPhone holder with a tactified (or something similar) bottom surface that would adhere to the dashboard. But if that is not a possibility, maybe the same product that they have created with a decent FM modulator built in... Just my thoughts.
Why?

The iPhone mounted like a GPS? Pointless as far as I'm concerned. Give me a similar slide-in mount, but with a stem that shoves into the cigarette lighter and charges the unit.

that plugs into the charger and has an adjustable arm. i bought one at costco a year or so ago but it won't work on my iphone. this would be much better than sticking crap onto a dashboard. as if you can read those directions anyway...

maybe apple will decide that voice dialing might save a few of their customers from wrecking their cars while trying to dial a number.

but alas, that feature is light years away given apple's snail paced development. good thing it's not available on any other phones yet either.

oh, wait. is this 1998?
