IBM's Informix Dynamic Server on Leopard

IBM has announced plans to deliver Informix Dynamic Server (IDS) support for Mac OS X Leopard. IDS 11 provides online transaction processing data serving capabilities, adding to existing support of Linux and UNIX as well as Microsoft Windows installations. The software boasts high performance, low operating cost, scalability, and data availability, according to IBM. The planned IDS 11 "Cheetah 2" release is already available in its first beta version for download.

"The new IDS release demonstrates our commitment to meeting client and solution partner needs in industries such as education, government and media," said Arvind Krishna, vice president of IBM Data Servers. "We are bringing leading database management capabilities of IBM IDS 11 to companies that are taking advantage of the Mac OS X environment."

"Blazing-fast Intel processors and the stability and security of Mac OS X are just some of the many compelling reasons businesses are switching to the Mac," said Ron Okamoto, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "We're thrilled that IBM is joining the growing number of Mac enterprise application developers by bringing its powerful enterprise-class IDS database to the Mac."

What about Rational???

This is welcome move by IBM. Mac OS X Leopard is making a difference. I would personally like to see other divisions of IBM make similar move. I work as a SCM (configuration management) engineer and we support Rational for our products. While our software are on Mac and Win, coming to Linux too, we have a horrid time supporting the Mac users within the org. I am not happy either. Me and a colleague use Macs and both use ssh and Remote Desktop Client to help the users. On the Mac Safari is supported by IBM for ClearCase and ClearQuest, but that is not the need only. We have automated builds and audit systems that fail. It is frustrating. Please IBM help us. Make your software run on the Mac. I would help do testing if you need.
