Mackie's SRMv2 speakers
Mackie has unveiled its new SRMv2 portable active loudspeakers that boast new Class-D Fast Recovery amplifiers. The SRM350v2 and SRM450v2 speakers both feature a switching power supply as well as new transducers, while the SRM450v2 includes a neodymium woofer with a 3-inch voice coil and titanium compression driver. Lighter than the original SRM speakers, the SRMv2 speakers are housed in durable midnight blue polypropylene cabinets. The company is offering two models which include the SRM350v2 and SRM450v2 (pricing was unavailable).
The SRM350v2 shares the same technology used in the SRM450v2 speakers, packaged in a compact form factor for improved portability. New amps, transducers, and a switching power supply provide studio monitor sound at more powerful loudspeaker levels, according to Mackie. The SRM350v2 is also lighter than its predecessor, and includes a mic/line input and pass-thru connector.
Mackie's SRM450v2 speakers include a Servo Feedback controlled woofer, a 300W class-D Fast Recovery LF amp/100W HF amp, and Mackie Active Electronic time alignment with phase correction and EQ for studio quality sound.

Lots of Mac (& iPod) users are into music/audio production. This article was actually very useful to me, as a Mac-based DJ. I hadn't heard about the new models.
I rented two SRM450s for a DJ gig recently ($180/day), and was greatly impressed. I was getting so much sound out of the them that I actually called the rental people (Rock & Soul in NYC) back to ask them if I could run them for long periods that way. The answer was yes.
The 450s are not huge speakers, but they did a great job for a party in a fairly large space with a couple hundred people- they sounded great. Highly recommended.

The SRM450 is the best-selling powered PA speaker of all time. They're gonna sell a f*ck-load of these. I can understand why somebody might be irked by having this info on MacNN but I, too, was glad to see it.
