AirMail, WaterField MacBook Air cases in works

Two new cases have already been announced for Apple's yet-to-be-released MacBook Air. The first of these is the AirMail, which takes a cue from Apple's marketing and is designed to resemble a manila envelope, complete with brown-hued "paper" and a red seal. The case is actually handmade out of vinyl, with a thick fleece liner. It is said to protect against smudges, scratches and light bumps, but not any harsh impacts. It should ship for $30 within two weeks, the same timeframe as the Air itself.

The second case is WaterField's new version of the SleeveCase, a more general design usually meant for many different notebooks. The case is made of a nylon exterior and a neoprene interior, and can be customized with a vertical or horizontal orientation, a strap, a front flap, and/or a detachable accessory holder. The new MacBook Air size (13-2) can be pre-ordered for prices starting at $40, but will only ship sometime before January 25th.

I'm surprised they haven't made a big splash about this offering:

The price is certainly right at $36 for 100 of them.

Yeah, I thought "AirMail" was just an envelope when I first saw it, but it's actually padded, so it's more like a laptop sleeve.

I would order one if I am getting a MB Air. It'll be hilarious.

That's funny. Just make sure you don't mistakenly mailing the wrong stuff.

That checked bottom of the sleevecase makes it look much too much like one of those over-sized purses. That wouldn't fly with most guys, but then again, most guys aren't going to whine about weight to where they'd spend upwards of $700 more for a less powerful machine.

1. The Airmail is such a clever idea that it's actually helping to push me towards buying an Air. It's that good. :)

2. Danviento: I think the day when "most guys" were bothered by a purse like laptop case are long gone. Almost all laptop cases of that style look like purses to me. It's not an issue, at least not for us "city-folk." Out in the boonies maybe ... :)

I just got my Waterfield sleevecase for my forthcoming Macbook Air and they are already shipping it out today!!!

The Airmail thing is "cute" but not really my style. I have several Waterfield products and they have all served me well--incredibly well made.

on the AirMail case - when they don't last past 6 months and those teen-agers [well at least from the photos they look like teenagers] are stuck dealing shelling out refunds or are busy having to make good on fixing a defective product_

I can't believe there are that many suckers who are willing to pay $30 for a low functionality fashion statement. Then again, not much of a surprise. Waterfield has always been about fashion over function.
