OWC unveils Mac DVD/CD burner upgrades

Other World Computing (OWC) today unveiled new Superdrives and CD burners for all Mac computer models. The company's drive upgrade -- the 20X DL SuperDrive DVR-115D -- reads as well as writes DVDs, CDs, and dual-layer DVDs. Capacity for dual layer DVDs is 8.5GB at speeds of 10X; regular DVDs for 4.7GB capacity at 20X; and CDs for 700MB at 40X. "For most Macs, this is an incredibly easy upgrade and one of great return for anyone who's currently making or planning to make their own DVDs or CDs," OWC said. The new drives are priced from $30 and up.

OWC aims to ease the process of upgrading to fast DVD/CD burners compatible with the latest software, such as Apple iLife, Apple Discburner, Roxio Toast, NTI Dragonburn, and other CD/DVD authoring applications.

"Whether upgrading from a read-only drive, replacing an older Superdrive or adding additional optical drive, OWC's Superdrives are priced right and are Plug & Play easy to install. OWC offers the newest, fastest, and quietest SuperDrive technology from Pioneer, including 20X DL SuperDrive DVR-115D to read and write DVDs, CDs, and dual-layer DVDs."

any blueray compatible drives? At this time, I'd likely look at that option, since the industry seems to shifting that direction...

In other words, they were shipping the Pioneer DVR112 18X, now its superceded by the 20x? I mean, c'mon guys you gotta come stronger than that. What a waste of a press release.

Ok, maybe I was a little harsh. At least they were honest enough to list the actual Manufacturer(Pioneer) and model #.

But, this is a slight burn speed increase not a new fleet of drives being rolled out. There in lies my angst..

Hell, it was a press release. Every company does a press release when their CEO goes to the bathroom by himself and doesn't slip in ("Way to go Bill! Good boy!").

It's not like they pulled a special press event for this stuff.
