Prospects 1.0 handles personal finances

MotiMotion has released Prospects 1.0, a new personal finance application. One of its key features is said to be "ViewPoints," which track three different categories of information when viewing an account with transactions. These panels can be positioned at the side or bottom of the window, and contain sliders, which let users quickly change the timeframe being examined.

The software also exploits the concept of Binders, which group accounts together and determine assets, liabilities and current growth estimates. Other features of the software include a Budget Advisor, and the ability to import QIF, OFX and QFX files. The software is a Universal Binary for Mac OS X 10.5 or higher, and costs $35 in a single license or $45 as a family pack.

I have been using MoneyDance, which is very nice, but I always look for something a little more "mac-like". MoneyDance is written in Java, and while it looks ok on the mac, doesn't have that super easy, slick feel.

One of those bundle deals offered Cha-Ching which I tried, but it's a little too free form. It largely replies on tags to do a lot of stuff and when I tried using it to manage my ebay sales (just personal stuff, not a business) it was not always intuitive.

This program looks intuitive. It doesn't look like it connects directly to online services though and being a new company, longevity is always a concern. Will give it shot though!

simdude ...

I am the developer of Prospects. We are in this for the long haul - we love the Mac platform and we feel that there is still a large void to be filled when it comes to personal finance software. We are actively working on direct connect online services and hope to provide the functionality in an upcoming release ... I hope you were able to check out the software. If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact us!
