Apple releases iPhone, iPod 1.1.4 update

Apple today released the much-anticipated 1.1.4 update for the iPhone and iPod touch. The new software/firmware update is available via iTunes; Apple is vague on details but says that the update "includes bug fixes and supersedes all previous versions" of the earlier firmware. A preliminary investigation of the update by MacNN does not reveal any new features, although the upgrade is believed to be necessary for Apple to implement its upcoming software development kit (SDK) for third-party apps and is likely to patch software exploits used to jailbreak or unlock the devices for use with unsanctioned code.

mullum: I would say that Stability would be #1, but since your unlocked and not just jailbroken, I would DEFINITELY wait.

There is absolutely nothing obviously new in this update at all. No new apps. Nothing. Ziphone apparently still works though.

Im getting bummed with Apples increasing silence on what their updates contain these days. At 163mb or so, you'd think it might contain something interesting. But apparently not...

Why give away Touch features when you can sell them thru the iTunes store? Looks like a pretty worthless 164MB to me.

Of course there's reasons to update. It's obvious. BUG FIXES! And we know Apple, that means they must have fixed all the software problems with the device (without an actual fix list, its just as likely as anything else).

BTW, moo083, it doesn't say anything about stability in the note (which is odd, since Apple's updates usually list "improves stability" in there somewhere).

But, come on! Is Apple really that worried about appearances that they can't publish a list of bug fixes in a release note? They could treat their customers with a little more respect, and not just "Go ahead, install it. Trust us, it will do all good and no harm!".
