Aperture 2.0.1 ups performance, stability
Apple today released Aperture 2.0.1, an update to its post production photography software designed for professionals. The latest revision of Aperture addresses issues related to the performance and overall stability of Aperture 2, and includes fixes that impact various areas of the software. Fixes cover upgrading libraries from earlier versions of Aperture, publishing .Mac Web Gallery albums, Preview generation as well as deletion, and creating as well as ordering books. Aperture users can upgrade via Apple's 'Software Update' feature located under the Apple Menu, or can download the update manually from Apple's updates page (43.9MB).
Further fixes in Aperture 2.0.1 include the following areas: AppleScript support; keyboard shortcut customization; appearance of metadata overlays in the Browser; Filmstrip, and on light tables; watermarking of emailed photos; and highlighting hot as well as cold areas.
The update also fixes a number of other minor issues, according to Apple, involving some of the following areas of its software: Loupe; Smart Albums; All Projects View; Straighten Tool; Filmstrip; Drag-and-drop import; Thumbnail generation; Import window; and Export plug-in reliability.

I kept my mind open to the idea of switching back to Aperture from Lightroom whenever they released the 2.0 version.
Alas, I downloaded the trial and still have no need for it over Lightroom. The preset function and the stamp metadata function are still abysmal compared to Lightroom. Those are two things I use judiciously. I don't see how anybody who is going to use a program like Aperture would not use those two features. It's not a matter of what you use it for otherwise or how you work. They're so basic to what this type of program was meant to alleviate. With Aperture I have to back out of an edit, redo the crop and apply presets individually. Many more steps compared to Lightroom. Da*n Apple, you actually made me run to Lightroom!
The presets are tool specific, no overall presets. The lift and stamp feature is too simpistic compared to Lightroom. You still can't deselect the cropping from the list before batching the metadata to other photos. Also, I love being able to apply sorting by labels and flags in addition to star ratings.
For all the nice features the basics still aren't as fluid as Lightroom.
So, by the time Apple would add these features I'm already going to be into a Lightroom update cycle.
