3G iPhone to surface within four months?

In advance of Apple's 3G iPhone announcement, Citigroup believes the new version of the device could be surfacing within four months. According to AppleInsider, analyst Rich Garder came to the conclusion based on input from several industry sources, which he claims confirms a 3G version of the iPhone during the second quarter. Caris & Co. analyst Shebly Seyrafi believes that Apple will meet its 10 million unit goal, but will not succeed in putting adequate pressure on the rest of the market.

This news precedes Apple's announcement on Thursday, relating to the highly anticipated software developers kit. Apple is hosting an event at its headquarters in Cupertino. The event is expected to draw many enterprise solution providers.

There is much speculation as to the nature of the developer kit, and how the created content will be distributed. Apple may make iPhone apps available for sale through the iTunes store, while it could potentially loosen its grip on smaller, home-made applications.

"but will not succeed in putting adequate pressure on the rest of the market."

adequate pressure on the market to:

-force them bow down to apple and call it quits? -cry uncle? -get their butts in gear and produce good products that consumers want to buy?

that selling more iPhones than all Windows Mobile is qualified as putting pressure.

The problem is that all analysts look at these days is market share as if that's the key to success.

Citigroup and Gartner have a good record? Clearly the 3G phone is coming but at the 14 Street Store NYC they can hardly keep up with demand for the 16Gb versions, selling packs of 5 to people who look Chinese. That is multiples of 5. I was 25 to 35 being sold. Given China does not have 3G at all it must mean a launch for Japan and a reply to Europeans who are not so enthusiastic as us. So that's an iPhone 3g next month. Sounds very likely... not.
