Steve Jobs' cancer a secret for nine months

Steve Jobs reportedly held on to the news about his pancreatic cancer for approximately nine months, before having corrective surgery and announcing the news to the world. According to CNN Money, Jobs attempted to solve the issue by maintaining a special diet, hoping to avoid surgery altogether. The news weighed heavily on Apple's board, which remained quiet at the advice of its lawyers.

Even after the tumor was removed, both Apple and Jobs remained quiet on details regarding how long he had been sick, or that he put off surgery based on his personal beliefs. When jobs had finally come forth with the surgery and sickness, Apple's stock only dropped by 2.4-percent. The stock might have suffered more, had everyone been aware of Jobs' condition, since he is largely viewed as irreplaceable.

" We all really care about Steve, and it was a serious risk for the company as well. It was a very emotional and very difficult time. This was one page in the adventure," said an anonymous source that was close to the situation.

Wasn't this like 4 years ago? Is this really news, Jobs keeping a secret? Isn't it like saying "The Record labels today announced a new plan to lose money and piss off music lovers".

lol at the music label bit that made me laugh.

jobs is one of the great people in business that loves what they do and loves their fanbase more. i was never an apple fan 3 years ago but i brought an g5 imac for some music creation and since then i have had 4 macs. 2 notebooks and 2 imacs and i love them.

this is "oldish" news -- however, Pancreatic cancer, even when treated early, is almost always a no-win situation. The sad fact remains, that Steve will probably not win this particular battle.

Robttwo, If Steve Jobs had the malignant form of pancreatic cancer he would already be dead. It is rare that anyone survives a year, let alone 4 years.

Honestly, who cares. This happened ages ago, so i don't see why its being plastered up on Macnn now (apart from scraping the barrel for "news" perhaps) Cancer is pretty serious sh!t for anyone to deal with. And is no ones business but his own, his family and his close work partners. The important thing is, he's well now :)

There's just a tad bit of difference between Jobs keeping a secret about the next computer configuration and his personal health. Just a small difference between life threatening cancer and the music labels pissing people off.

Stunning that the comparison was even made.

Jobs had the extremely rare form of pancreatic cancer which can be cured with surgery. Lucky guy and lucky us, too.
