Adapter allows DVI-over-USB connections
Gefen has introduced a new USB to DVI Graphics Adapter that allows users to connect additional displays Mac OS X systems. This tiny adapter allows a plug and play connection of a DVI or VGA display to any USB 2.0 port so you can add digital video displays or projectors to your laptop and personal computer for simultaneous video delivery without needing a DVI port. Output video is delivered in the DVI-I format, allowing for either VGA or DVI display compatibility.
The Gefen USB to DVI Graphics Adapter is priced at $130 and offers a variety of screen resolutions up to 1600x1200. Users also have the option of having the USB connected display mirror the main display or extend the desktop to provide increased visibility and the ability to view several applications at the same time in a multiple display situation. Testing has shown that up to six USB to DVI Graphics Adapters can be connected to any one system with reliable delivery of video to all six displays.

In favor of MacNN maybe the above info has merely not been updated on Gefen's product page/website - which in any event MacNN should have mentioned_
As for the product itself - this type of connection seems rather pointless - seeing as how the thru-put of USB is not sustainable except in low power devices like keyboards and mice_ Much less connecting it to a Digital Video Streaming capable connection_ Has Gefen found a way for high sustainability using USB that the rest of the industry pretends exists?

Well, it mustn't be that pointless. They aren't the first to jump into this fray.
