Apple will be opening its latest retail store in Cherry Hill, NJ this weekend. The Apple Store Cherry Hill will open to the public on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. EDT. The last Apple retail store to open was in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Thursday, March 6th. Apple is also planning to open four new stores in Europe, branching out with retail outlets in Monaco, Zurich, Geneva, and Ireland. Apple posted job listings for three of those stores, but refrained from specifying opening dates or exact locations.

Office 2008 "missing manual"

O'Reilly is now shipping a "missing manual" title for Office 2008. Jim Elferdink, author of Office 2008 for Macintosh: The Missing Manual, provides step-by-step instructions for all major (and most minor) Office 2008 features, including those that have always lurked in Office but many have never quite understood. He also offers an up-to-the-minute overview of the ways the comprehensive software package can streamline every one-person, all-purpose office. "The windows, toolbars, and icons have been modernized and de-cluttered, helping Office blend in better with your other Mac programs--instead of sticking out like the 'I’m a PC' guy at a Mac user group meeting," says the northern California author.

Sofa Control offers remote Mac direction

Gravity Applications is a new joint effort by a small group of individuals with extensive experience in developing software for the Mac. The new organization is currently offering 4 products, including Sofa Control: Sofa Control enables the Mac user to control almost everything on his Mac via the Apple Remote, which comes with most modern day Macs. Sofa Control is popular in situations where a Mac is used as a media center, allowing the user to control movies, music etc. from the couch. It is also widely used among people using their Mac for presentations, allowing them to switch slides with their Apple Remote with ease. Out of the box, Sofa Control supports a great number of popular applications like VLC, Safari, PowerPoint and many more.


Data Backup, Data Rescue awarded

Prosoft Engineering has announced that Data Rescue II and Data Backup 3 have been awarded the Consumers Digest Best Buy Award in the April 2008 issue of Consumers Digest. Data Rescue II is a best hard drive and file recovery tool for the Mac, which works even when your hard drive fails to mount or boot. Data Backup 3 is a backup program for the Mac.

FCPUG SuperMeet at NAB

The Final Cut Pro User Group Network have announced that the 7th Annual NAB FCPUG SuperMeet will be held at the MGM Grand Hotel's Grand Ballroom, Wednesday, April 16 beginning at 7PM. Tickets are $15 per person and include 3 raffle tickets and are on sale now.
