TV shows launched on iTunes Germany

Apple on Wednesday marked the official launch of TV shows on iTunes Germany, expanding the availability of such programming further into Europe. The mix includes a combination of top German-made TV shows such as Stromberg and Tramitz and Friends as well as a select number of American shows, including Lost and South Park. A total of 35 shows mark a "great start" to the launch of TV shows in the country, according to Apple's iTunes VP, Eddy Cue. As with past unveilings, TV shows can be purchased from an Apple TV, Mac, or PC and played back on these devices as well as iPhones and iPods.

Significantly, however, Apple notes that pricing on TV shows varies and that individual episodes will cost between €1.99 and €2.49 each. Apple has allowed variable pricing for long-form TV content for other countries in its recent past but has typically asked a fixed price for most standard-length programming.

Multiple sound tracks?

If anyone has downloaded a show/movie, I am curious as to whether they offer multiple sound tracks. I would imagine that one great benefit to doing everything digital would be that you could watch the US shows either with German voice-over or in English. It is unlikely, but this would be huge benefit over watching the shows on tv, where they are only shown with voice-over.

There's no way in hell I'm going to pay for dubbed material; that was the #1 reason I stopped watching TV in Germany some 6-7 years ago (#2 being the amazing amount of shite being broadcast). I can only dream, but having access to original content from all over the world would be a dream come true (with subtitles on demand) . Until then: Apple won't make a dime/cent with me...

Now they're offering variable pricing of TV shows... So Apple will variable price everything now except individual songs.

Of course, I'm sure there's some logical and non-hypocritical reason for this.

And I would call 35 shows a "start", not a "great start".
