Apple sets Q2 report for April 23rd

Apple has announced April 23rd has the formal date for its second-quarter financial report. The company should begin its conference call with investors at 2PM Pacific time on that date, and allow others to listen in via a simultaneous webcast. The link for this has not yet been published, but should become available in the near future.

The second quarter is said to traditionally be Apple's weakest, coming after the holiday season but before any major events such as WWDC, or the run-up to the fall school season. Earlier this year, Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer offered a predicted revenue guidance of $6.8 billion for the quarter, with an earnings-per-share rating of $0.94.

Aiding Apple should be the release of several important products, such as the MacBook Air, and upgraded standard MacBooks. The company also introduced new Mac Pros, new capacities for the iPhone and the iPod touch, and a revised Apple TV, complete with movie rentals in the US and expanded TV show sales outside of the country.

This is so easy, a cat could do it.

- Apple will beat expectations (then again, they laid out such piss-poor expectations for the quarter, the stock would spiral down if they just matched, let alone barely broke).

-Sales of the MBA will be better then they even hoped (well, it won't be, because they probably had an idea how well it would sell, but it always sounds good when you play the "humble" card). If numbers are good, they'll even tell you how many they sold (rather than just lumping all the numbers together, like they normally do - Apple's way of making sure no one knows how well any part of their line sells).

- They'll lay out a very dim outlook for the next quarter, talking of flattening sales of iPhones, iPods, etc, until the apps are released by quarter's end. (This way they can shatter numbers again).

- But they will talk up the iPhone and how many people have downloaded the SDK and tried to join the developers group. They'll dismiss any questions or notions that users shouldn't have to go through the appstore to put apps on their phones.

- They won't mention anything on the sales of the AppleTV. It's numbers will still be included with 'ipod peripherals' (which is Apple's way of hiding the sales figures).

- The phrase "we don't comment on unannounced products" will be spoken at least 3 times during the Q&A.

- Oh, and the stock price will likely drop in after-hours trading, causing MacNN forum members to question the intelligence of brokers, traders, etc, for selling when Apple's results were so good.
