MCE debuts FireWire solid state drives for DV cams

MCE Technologies today unveiled the QuickStream SS, a self-powered solid-state drive designed for standard and high-definition video capture. The QuickStream SS is ideal in situations where vibration or other environmental factors contribute to a less-than-desirable shooting environment for standard platter-based capture methods. Size configurations were not mentioned, but MCE will ship both a 2 hour and four hour model, for $1800 and $2800 respectively.

"The new QuickStream SS is able to capture flawless video under conditions hard disk based systems could not survive," said Arnold Ramirez, President of MCE Technologies. "Any situation where motion is a factor: helmet cams, helicopter, automobile, and speed-boat video rigs, or simply for the purpose of eliminating the potential risk associated with hard disk based video capture devices are the reasons the QuickStream SS was created."

The drive functions with any IEEE1394 Firewire and i.LINK connectable cameras, and features industry standard mounting points to secure the drive. QuickStream SS works with Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid, Vegas, Canopus DVStorm, and iMovie, among others.

These have been out for a month or so. Still nice, though.
