Leopard support for Intel 10Gb Ethernet

Small Tree Communications recently unveiled software support for the Intel 10 Gigabit Ethernet CX4 Dual Port adaptor under Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, providing users with a sub-$1000 solution for the standard. The PCI solution allows users to enhance network connectivity on supported infrastructure, making it ideal to transfer video feeds, large network file transfers, or other areas where networking speed is essential. The software is available from Small Tree's website.

"The growing demand for High Definition programming is driving the need for greater network bandwidth among the companies providing and developing this content," said Tom Swinford, general Manager of Intel’s LAN Access Division. CX4 is a poor option

The cable lengths are too short, especially for their cost, the cables themselves are too thick and inflexible - far better to use XFPs and choose your flavour of fibre.

This option is more suited for Server hook-ups, such-as Server to Switch that has a 10GB port.
