PhoneValet 5.4 update

Parliant has published another update for PhoneValet, its virtual call management software. The application automatically screens, identifies, records and transfers calls, with further options such as automatic dialing and VoIP integration. Using the Anywhere add-on owners can check voicemail via the web, including through a special client for the iPhone and iPod touch.

The v5.4 patch improves audio compression for Anywhere, shrinking the file size of recordings while simultaneously producing cleaner sound. Also new to PhoneValet is the ability to manage calls based on area codes, for instance by blocking distant telemarketers; lastly, a timed backup option ensures that call histories are not lost in a system crash. The PhoneValet Message Center costs $170 per line, but a Home version is $50, and the update is free. Mac OS X 10.4.11 and a supporting modem are required.
