Indigo 3.0 adds INSTEON support
Perceptive Automation has released Indigo 3.0, the newest version of its Mac-based home automation server. Connected to proper accessories, the server can control appliances such as lights, thermostats, lawn sprinklers and hot tubs. The upgrade supports INSTEON technology, which for instance lets users wirelessly control Venstar thermostats. Users can define links and lighting schemes between most INSTEON modules, and upload information to a PowerLinc 2414U, which lets users shut their Mac off without losing automation.
Indigo now additionally features SQLite and PostgreSQL, a server plug-in framework, and improved performance. Indigo 3.0 runs on Mac OS X 10.4 or later, and also requires either an INSTEON or X10 interface. The software is $180 new, but is free to Indigo 2.0 users, and $90 to v1.x owners.

Insteon
Indigo has supported Insteon for a while; since 1.8, I believe. I've been using the beta, and the link management features are greatly appreciated. Also appreciated is the free upgrade. Indigo is a great program, and testament to the quality of software available for the Mac. Windows may have several applications in the space, but I'd rather have one or two good programs than a load of crappy ones. Doesn't that summarize the Mac vs. Windows software market as a whole?

Indigo is a very nice program. Indigo supports remote control via a Dashboard widget and a built in web server. Creation of graphical control pages is a breeze.
Although, if you have an old mac sitting around, you can still get XTension at www.shed.com for Mac Classic machines. I have an old mac running at my parents house for lighting control with XTension and it's been rock solid. The old version is X10 only though which is not as reliable as Insteon (i.e. every once in a while, a light will not have shut off. This can be improved with the computer by having scripts to repeat shutoff commands etc.)
