Glide OS 3.0 debuts

TransMedia has debuted v3.0 of Glide OS, its web-based operating system. Because it functions online it is compatible with platforms including Mac OS X, Linux, Windows and Solaris, and is available in 18 different languages, incluiding English, French, Spanish and Japanese. Apps in the OS include presentation, spreadsheet and word processor software, as well as e-mail and photo tools, and a media player.

The major new feature of the OS is One, a file sync service which ensures access across all operating systems, and to some 75 devices including the iPhone and the iPod touch, although these cannot download any files. Users of v3.0 are also able to create their own personal web space, and set rules for its behavior in relationship to others. Glide is free with a limit of four users and 5GB of storage; support for 24 users and 15GB of storage costs $5 per month, or $50 per year. Extra storage is sold in lumps of 10GB.
