Apple posts iPhone 2.0 firmware, upgrade guide
Apple has quietly released the iPhone 2.0 firmware, work has uncovered. Though not officially announced, or yet distributed through iTunes 7.7, the IPSW file can now be downloaded directly from an Apple server. The firmware enables both native applications and access to the App Store; installing it at this stage, however, is only recommended for advanced users familiar with manually synching such updates. A fresh installation of the v2.0 software takes approximately 20 minutes; normal distribution methods should begin by Friday morning.
Apple has correspondingly posted a new guide for installing or restoring v2.0 firmware through iTunes. After installing iTunes 7.7, users are expected to connect either a 2.5G iPhone or an iPod touch. People must then select the Summary tab in the device's Source pane, and click "Check for Update." At this point they can click Update to install the new firmware, or Restore to overwrite with a backup created from a previous iPhone.

updated
I updated mine this morning. Tested Exchange Activesync and WPA2 Enterprise. Both work great. Installed a few apps. The iTunes remote control app is pretty nice.
can't upgrade via iTunes?
OK, my phone tells me 1.1.4 is the current version of the software. What am I missing here?
Hey gudin
In order to install this firmware, you will have to do it manually by pressing the Option key when pressing the "Check for Update" button in iTunes. Then select the .ipsw file manually. If for some reason your download is a ".zip" file, rename it to ".ipsw" before proceeding.
crap
missed it again..."Page not found"
iPod
This does not work with the iPod touch, you will have to wait for the official $10 version for that.
Who's server
That server does not belong to Apple.

How do we know that Apple has "quietly released" this? I wouldn't trust anything that does not come directly from Apple!
Re: Who's server
Most stuff from apple is distributed via the likes of akamai. You just don't know it.
Akamai
Edgesuite is part of the Akamai network, like the URL events.apple.com.edgesuite.net to broadcast Keynotes.
