Smart Backup Battery extends iPhone 3G's capacity

Though the iPhone 3G offers faster connections over 3G networks, it sacrifices battery life to do so. The Smart Backup Battery can double battery capacity for owners of the new iPhone. The external aluminum-cased lithium-ion battery attaches to the data-port at the base of the iPhone to charge the iPhone's battery. It can be used to charge while the phone is in operation and will charge first the iPhone, then itself, in sequence when attached to AC power. The Smart Backup Battery also works with the original iPhone, iPod touch and all other data-port iPods. It costs $50, with discounts on volume purchases.

The charger comes with both a USB-adapter and an AC wall-adapter. It has LED charging status indicators and overcharging protection technology. The lithium-ion battery is rated at 1200mAh and weighs less than two ounces.

a very poor design. I can see the iPod connector getting snapped off and/or the connector having problems due to bending the battery pack differently from the iPhone. There is another battery pack that looks much more reliable and less problematic that has the batteries along the back of the iPod and grips the iPod along the sides when it's attached.

Never mind

the poor design - the important thing is that solutions are pooring in:)

Sure the battery on iPhone 3G is not that great, but what can we do? We want small size phones, powerful features and lengthy battery life.

Just get a backup battery. I got mine from iPhoneck brands. Their new 3G backup battery is probably one of the better looking products in the market. Their website is www.iphoneck.com

Redesign it?

If only it had a flexible cable and would attach to the back of the iPhone, then it would be worthy of consideration. At the moment, it looks like it could damage the dock connector if you are not careful.
