Regional, product Q3 sales

As a part of its Q3 2008 financial results, Apple has posted explicit figures for sales by region, sector and product. The bulk of sales were of course in the Americas, where the company sold slightly over 1.1 million CPU units, producing a revenue of approximately $3.4 billion. The next-largest market was Europe, with 576,000 units and revenues of $1.6 billion. The retail sector, measured separately, is said to have accounted for 476,000 units, and revenue of $1.4 billion. Japan amounted to only 102,000 units and $365 million in revenue, but Apple supplemented this with $571 million from "other segments," including FileMaker and Asia Pacific streams.

Apple notes that desktop computer shipments -- including Xserves -- amounted to 943,000 units, for revenue just under $1.4 billion. Notebooks produced far more money at over $2.2 billion, the result of delivering close to 1.6 million units.

Over 11 million iPods are said to have been shipped during the quarter, generating about $1.7 billion; accessories, services and the iTunes Store produced a combined $819 million. iPhone revenues are said to have been $419 million, made off 717,000 in shipments, though this does not include some deferred accounting.

Sofware, service and some other sales created $501 million, while peripherals and miscellaneous hardware is said to have added $437 million. Missing in this should be the full brunt of Apple TV sales, which like those for the iPhone have had deferred figures.

Apple's total revenue for Q3 amounts to somewhat less than $7.5 billion, a 1 percent drop sequentially, but a 38 percent growth year-over-year.
