Monster Dr. Dre-backed headphones shipping
Monster Cable today said it will soon ship its Beats headphones. The over-the-ear audio equipment is developed in tandem with rap artist Dr. Dre and Interscope head Jimmy Iovine, and is said to be tuned for accuracy at both the high end, the mid-range, and in bass response, even with relatively low-power portable audio devices. The headset also provides active noise reduction that cancels out background sounds and purportedly mimics the experience of studio monitors.
In shipping form, the Beats headphone set comes with an in-line microphone that lets iPhones and other music phones with a 3.5mm headphone jack answer and end calls without reaching for the phone itself. Monster is making the earpiece available only through Apple's retail and online stores on July 25th alongside Best Buy shops.

Rugged and industrial
They look like the kind of headphones you'd find either in a DJ booth, or on lots of airline passengers.
By comparison, Bose active noise-reducing headphones cost around $300.
For pro use?
"and is said to be tuned for accuracy at both the high end, the mid-range, and in bass response"
Am I to understand these are to be used professionally then? Maybe having Dre's name on it will help sell a few more with hip-hop loving fans, but there really are better alternatives for better prices. Ill stick with my Sony MDR-7509 thank you...
Not for pros or most
If you like good sound and know good sound, definitely avoid these. They are total gimmicks aimed purely at the uneducated buyer who things hyped bright highs and overbearing bass is, "good sound". They are nowhere near the asking price. ~$100 would be closer to the actual value, if even that.
