Mac clone maker goes up for sale
Despite having been in operation for just three weeks, a company specializing in Mac clones is already putting itself up for sale, according to a website notice. Open Tech says it is now willing to sell the entire company, including branding, trade secrets and website, for a price of just $50,000. This amount can even be paid via PayPal, an extremely unusual move in the business world.
Both the sale value and use of PayPal may suggest that the company was in fact a small-time personal venture, or even that it had no genuine, long-term intentions. A July investigation revealed that no proper traceroute could be done on the Open Tech website, the trail having been cut off somewhere in the Netherlands.
Open Tech distinguished itself from its legally-challenged rival, Psystar, by promising it would not install Mac OS X Leopard directly to a PC, a violation of Apple's licensing agreement. It instead promised to provide a kit which would allow the installation of any major operating system, requiring some manual work on the part of buyers.

can't make this stuff up.
For the price of a used E-class, you too can try and take your best shot against a company with $14B sitting in the bank.
$50,000 is likely what they owe the lawyer for the time it took him to stop laughing.
Who was the CEO who wrote this biz plan? Darl McBride's kid brother?
company?
This "company" sounds like 1 guy that took some of the Hackintosh stuff, packaged it up and is trying to make a quick 50K. Sure. I'll Paypal you the money right away.
ooo-ooo!
This sounds like a bargain! I just don't understand why I have to send my money to Nigeria first in order to get in on this...
Typical Business Plan..
"Hey, Apple, we'll go away for $50,000"
What kind of an idiot undervalues himself like that??? Is the CEO of that company 12 years old?
duh
duh. anyone who thought this company was legit, at any point, is a complete moron.
the stink of vapor was in the air from the get-go.
Do not pass go...
Do not collect $200.00 bucks. Their get out of jail card is probably what costs them $50,000. After apple's lawyers get done with them!
I feel sorry ...
... for anyone dumb enough to have actually paid real money for one of these illegal clones.
Oh wait, no I don't. Ha ha. Morans! :)
RE: All the above
You guys are obviously confusing Open Tech with Psystar who is still challenging Apple.
Either way Open Tech seems to be a one person home-based operation, and after looking at the website and "products" it was clear that he has no physical products or inventory.
psytar...
...is worth even less.
