Samsung officially releases BD-P2500 Blu-ray player

Samsung’s previously leaked Blu-ray player, the BD-2500, has been officially announced on Thursday. What has changed since is the name, as the new player is called BD-2500 instead of BD-2550. Thanks to Hollywood Quality Video (HQV) processing, the new player will be able to upscale standard definition DVDs and deliver xvYCC Deep Color support in addition to 24fps film mode. It will come pre-loaded with BD Live Profile 2.0 software, as well as Bonus View Profile 1.1, making bonus content from the Internet accessible thanks also to an integrated Ethernet port.

The built-in 1GB of internal memory is necessary for storing the downloaded Blu-ray Profile 2.0 content as well as photos and small video clips. In addition, the player has a front-mounted USB port that will allow portable drives, digital cameras and other consumer devices to connect to it. Other connections include one HDMI 1.3 output for audio and video, a component and composite video outputs, as well as an optical audio output and 7.1-channel analog outputs.

Supported surround sound codecs will include Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS. A firmware update promised in the fall will bring with it DTS-HD HR support.

The BD-P2500 will hit store shelves in October, with pricing set at $500.

It's a Samsung. Worst..WORST firmware in the industry! Some of the newer movies simply will not play and the 1st and 2nd gen Samsung models. Inexcusable! Especially considering the price of these things. And, in a few months it gets DTS-HD HR?!?!?! Um, what about DTS-HD MA? Hello? Keep your crappy players Samsung and stick to what you are good at...TVs.
