New Exchange sync option reaches beta stage

A new solution for syncing Microsoft Exchange, Google and Apple contact and calendar information has surfaced, titled Sync'Em. Now available as a public beta Sync'Em, in its current state, can synchronize Exchange contacts with Apple's Address book or synchronize Exchange contacts across several Exchange accounts. The developer hopes to soon add functionality to allow users to sync Exchange calender events with iCal or across several Exchange accounts.

The beta can be downloaded free from the Sync'Em website.

Sounds interesting, but Plaxo is much easier to use.

Forget Plaxo

I don't think Plaxo is easier, at all ... having to sign up, etc. I followed the Sync'Em quick-start documentation and I was up 'n running in about 10 minutes, including installing. Doesn't get much easier than that. In addition, it looks like I'll be able to do much more with Sync'Em once they're a little further along with its development. What I see so far gives me confidence that they know what they're doing.

I also tend to agree with the Sync'Em web site in that I don't like the idea of running all my information through some 3rd-party server. It not only adds risk in terms of information privacy but also adds one more thing that can go wrong. With all the computer info leaks we hear about (and likely many more we don't hear about), I'm not at all in favor of all this "cloud computing" and "software as a service" stuff. I want things on my system where I have at least some semblance of control.
