iTunes 8, iPhone 2.1 both due on Tuesday?
Apple's special iPod event on September 9th should see the release of two anticipated software updates, a report claims. One anonymous source "close to the situation" is cited as saying that iTunes 8, frequently expected to launch on the 9th, is indeed scheduled to go online at that date. It is rumored to bring with it a number of changes, such as the "Genius" recommendation feature, a grid view, and HD-quality TV episodes through the iTunes Store.
A separate source suggests that the iPhone 2.1 firmware will be released simultaneously, upgrading phones with background push notification as well as directional GPS, which may enable turn-by-turn navigation. Apple is further said to have kept some features out of developer seeds, with the aim of surprising the public and/or rivals. What these components might include is unclear.

HD TV?
Why not HD Everything? I thought HD was the theme two years ago?
Apple, I am NOT buying any more content from iTunes that is NOT HD. Including Music Videos, which i currently own 110.

Well, HD would be cool, but ANY content would be welcome!
The few countries that Do have content should be feeling lucky.

Well, some consider that, if they get HD TV in their homes, which they pay for (via cable or satellite, or even over the air), they have the fair-use rights to convert that broadcast into other formats for later viewing. And if the deliverers of media, and the media content providers, conspire to prevent you from doing this, then you have the right to reacquire your rights (as laid out by law, regardless of what the MPAA, RIAA, and others say), even if that means through bittorrent.
Legal right or wrong
Well, loose interpretation of the spirit of the law(s) can obviously be used as a convenient justification for actually violating that law.
Supreme court decision in Sony vs. Universal allowed people to use Sony's VCR device to "time=shift" the programme. It did not authorise the user to create perfect clones of it (which HD copy would end up being). Analogue loop continues to be legal, as long as there is no encryption (in which case DMCA applies).
If you need to time-shift cable-delivered content in HD, get a HD DVR box (either TiVO or from your cable operator). This is legal time-shifting, and you don't need to buy shows from iTunes. Mind you, what you're paying in iTunes is the actual price of the show - the content you buy is not subsidised by commercials. The time-shifted DVR recording is (which you can, of course, circumvent by fast-forwarding those 30 seconds).

Yeah right! Like the "secret hidden features" of OS X 10.5 which were supposed to appear on launch day as if by magic?! I called BS back then, and I'm calling it again now.
