Second-gen iPod touch
Apple has confirmed rumors by revealing the existence of a second-generation iPod touch, bringing with it several enhancements. Central is a revised casing, which uses a contoured profile similar in shape to the iPhone 3G, but with stainless steel replacing plastic. Other similarities with the iPhone include new volume buttons, allowing blind adjustment, and a speaker, from which owners can hear both music and system sounds.
Apple has also integrated the Nike+ sport system into the device, not only through the inclusion of software support, but a built-in receiver that only demands the standard shoe transmitter to match. The company has lastly tweaked the interface to generate Genius playlists similar to those on the desktop, which can be permanently stored on a touch.
Battery life has been extended on the new touchscreen iPod from 24 to 36 hours for music, while video lasts for up to six hours.
Capacities will remain limited to 8, 16 and 32GB models, but prices have been cut to $229, $299 and $399, respectively. All variants should be available as of today from both retail and the online Apple store.

I would have liked to see some larger capacities, so I could ditch my iPod Classic...

I was also hoping for a 64gb. Well, when they came out with the 16, it wasn't long till they made the 32. So I'll wait.

been nice. My wife has a 32GB and has plenty of room. I do like the speaker for alerts though. My 16GB is almost full. Might have to consider the 32GB as I don't see apple increasing them to 64GB anytime soon.

So, does this come with appstore support, or is that still another $20.

One of the most UNDERWHELMING keynotes EVER.
.
But, in keeping with Apple's performance as of late. Did this REALLY need its own keynote?
.
Where are the updated MacBooks & MacBook Pros?? Why do Windows machines now have the latest technology while Apple drags their feet?
.
Every computer manufacturer out there offers BluRay except for Apple.

Whining...

There's always something to whine about...
Give it a rest... If you folks are so dissatisfied about so many things in regard to the iPod and apple, then buy a God Forsaken ZUNE.
That would help keep the whining to a minimum...
Else, get some cheese with your whine :-()

We hear a lot about "The Cloud" but never has it been more clear that Apple is living on one or smoking something in one! Underwhelming is an understatement! The risible price reductions take no account of reduced component costs and clearly indicate that Apple is determined to maximise it's margins in spite of the economic downturn. Do they believe Apple users are unaffected by current economic trends? This is undeniably the worst "September Event" ever, given the minimal improvements in both specification and price, notwithstanding their utter disregard for market conditions. When Steve deigns to come down and walk amongst us, it is only to confirm his determination to squeeze every penny he can from us. Thanks Steve, now f ck off back to your cloud!

Um, maybe you missed the point, but they're dissatisfied with Apple focusing on the iPod, rather than the computers that used to be their focus. Getting a Zune will not solve anyone's issues with the MacBooks/MBPs.
