Apple confirms October 14th notebook event
Apple has confirmed some earlier rumors through an invitation sent to the press on Thursday, announcing an event for next Tuesday, October 14th. The accompanying image depicts a Mac illuminated by a single shaft of light, with text underneath that reads "The spotlight turns to notebooks." The location for the event is said to be the Apple Town Hall, situated at the company's headquarters in Cupertino, California.
A refresh of the MacBook line has been anticipated by analysts for some time, not only to switch from the outdated Santa Rosa platform to Montevina, but to improve look and construction. A photo of the alleged redesign is circulating online, suggesting no radical cosmetic differences, but a new and more efficient means of assembling each computer. Apple may also intend to switch from a full-sized DVI connection to mini-DVI.

Great!
My Powerbook (1.67Ghz) is getting long in the tooth as are the current MacBook Pro's.
Macbook Pro
I have a 2.16 17" MacBook Pro (with 2GB Memory) and it handles wonderfully. I will definitely wait another year before updating.
Quad core...
...18.4" screen, 16GB ram, raid/drive bay...? Yum!
same boat
It is hard to imagine a major improvement over my 2G-ram MacBook Pro. A glass touchpad would be nice (I have found the aluminum abrasive after awhile), and I would definitely go for another 100G on the drive -- an easily replaceable or upgradable drive would be nice. I don't think I would buy a computer without eSATA, given how important my external drives have been. When the Snow Leopard OS/X comes out, count me in for one of the new MBP's or whatever they choose to call it.
Here's hoping
they will have easier Hard Drive bay access similar to the MacBooks!
Desktops!!
DESKTOPS, dammit!
G4..
My 1.33Ghz Powerbook is just starting to show its age, I might be in the market soon for a new Macbook Pro.
Took them long enough...
It's about time.
Hopefully they won't price them into the startosphere, including the build-to-order options.
Whoever does BTO pricing at Apple must be on something, if he/she thinks people these days will pay $200.00 for 2 gigs of DDR-2 laptop memory.
it would be WISE of Apple to keep pricing LOW on everything, given the state of the economic world.
Can't Believe u people...
Don't support "throw-away" computers. They add to the garbage in the ENVIRONMENT. Plus, Apple is already cited as using "smelly" chemicals in their development, those bastards.
Remember when They charged $700 USD for 4GB of RAM when you can get it in the store for $99 USD? Yeah, those f*ckers!
APPLE = FINANCIAL RAPE! ENVIRONMENTAL RAPE! CIVIL LIBERTY RAPE! .... lets see what else... hey, SOUNDS LIKE A MONOPOLY!
Hope they pants are sued off, then a more transparent operation will come forward... or else BOYCOTT APPLE!
