Pixeltin has released its latest game for the iPhone or iPod touch, Rows 3D, which simulates the classic "four in a row" game. The input takes advantage of the device's multi touch display, allowing players to select the position of a stone with a fingertip and rotate the 3D peg board. Three different board styles are offered, including two wood-grain boards and one with a granite and silver appearance.
USBfever has launched four new screen protectors for the iPod touch second generation and fourth generation iPod nano. The Anti Glare Screen Protector for iPod touch 2G and Anti Glare Screen Protector for iPod nano 4G provide silicone coated protectors that are bubble-resistant, self adhesive and washable. They are oil and fingerprint resistant, with an anti-bacterial surface and do not use glues or adhesives to maintain contact with the iPod. Each protector is $9.
Japan's GClue has unveiled Pocket Clapper, an iPhone/iPod touch app that simulates the clapboards used while filming movies. Users can draw virtual chalk on a blackboard, outlining a scene with production information such as date, time, camera, director, scene, and take, to be used later during movie editing. The app also replicates the clap sound used to align audio and video content that have been recorded on separate devices.
Online music broadcaster BreakThru Radio has announced the availability of its radio streams to iPhone and iPod touch users. The service relies on technology from TVersity to deliver the channels, but listeners are able to tune in by navigating to iphone.breakthrough.com in Safari. Genres cater to more independent tastes, and include death metal, dancehall, dubstep, hip-hop, indie rock, skronk, roots country, reggae, electronic, acid jazz, ambient, dub, two-step, folk and more.
Hyperbolic Software has released the latest version of its Tidy Up! duplicate file search utility, meant for iTunes, iPod and iPhoto databases. The update enables searching for a missing song tag, and implements a few bug fixes to prevent the program from crashing. Tidy Up can be used to search for duplicate files, folders and packages, by criteria including type, creator, extension, date, visibility, tag, duration, bitrate and more.
DLO has launched the TransDock Direct, a new car dock for iPods. The device features a flexible support arm, and a removable 12V power socket. It transmits to stereos mainly via auxiliary input, which is said to offer better sound output than rival FM transmitters; also provided is a cassette adapter, for when aux-in is not an option. iPod touch users can additionally rotate the holder, in cases where they need to switch between vertical and horizontal orientations.
A number of visitors to the iTunes Store on Friday have been unable to properly access the site, or its services, according to tips sent to MacNN and discussions at Apple's support forums. People are reporting being unable to log in to the store, and as a result, they are not only unable to view account details, but perform functions such as buy new files or authorize existing purchases. Music not bought through iTunes Plus will refuse to sync with iPhones and iPods if it is not authorized online.
Nokia's N-Gage download service has the potential to dwarf the App Store in terms of mobile game sales, say parties within the gaming industry. Reuters reports that while N-Gage has achieved relatively little so far in its six months of operation, this is mainly because people have mostly had to install the necessary software themselves, something which is beginning to change with phones like the N85.
Apple has, for the second time this month, won "Gadget of the Year" in a British awards competition. T3's second-annual T3 Gadget Awards ceremony was held on Thursday evening, and included awards chosen by both readers and T3. Readers cast over 54,000 votes to pick 11 of the prizes, which included the Gadget of the Year award, won by Apple's iPod touch.
