Firethorn banking app

AT&T, in collaboration with Firethorn Holdings, has released Mobile Banking for the iPhone. Users can access their financial information or initiate transactions; the former includes account balances and history, as well as other facts like earned interest rates. Access requires entering a PIN number. In handling transactions the program can be used to pay bills or transfer funds, while monitoring multiple accounts held at any of the supported financial institutions.

The service is available for several banks including America First Credit Union, Arvest Bank, BancorpSouth, Carolina First, FirstBank, Mercantile Bank, SunTrust, Synovus, USAA and Wachovia. The developers will be adding additional banks in the future. The Firethorn mobile banking app is available now as a free download from iTunes.

...there's also Pageonce's iOnce "A Personal Assistant" app, which isn't quite as featureful but at least can tell you your current balance and recent transactions without navigating through individual bank web sites in Safari.

It's great to see something like this rolling out for the iPhone/iPod where multiple FIs can take advantage of the same hard work. This lowers the barrier to entry and provides a common methodology for doing online banking.

My only hope is that more banks and credit unions will join those already participating because I don't see my financial institution listed yet. :)
