Briefcase apps updated

Hey Mac software has updated the iPhone file transfer apps Briefcase and Briefcase Lite, adding better image handling, and an improved password interface. The software now supports image tiling, reducing images to two megapixels for viewing on the iPhone. The login window now defaults to not remembering passwords, and passwords in the keychain can now be cleared. Also new is an iPhone-based FAQ interface, fixed symbolic link support, and a remedy for a scrolling bug. The new apps are also available on all the iTunes App Stores, after previously being limited to the US, Canada and Europe.

Briefcase allows iPhone users to browse files over a local network, connecting to Macs, iPhones and iPod touches, and other computers supporting SSH. Windows support is available, but requires high-level technical knowledge. The app allows users to securely upload and download any file or directory, and view files like Pages, Numbers, Word and Excel documents, or MP3, M4V and PDF content.

Briefcase Lite is restricted to local networks, while Briefcase can connect remotely. The Lite version can also only download files, not directories, and only uploads to Macs, not iPhones or iPods. Both titles are now available at the App Store; Briefcase is $5, while Briefcase Lite is free.
