EngLits for iPhone/iPod teach classic literature
ZappTek has released EngLits, a series of iPhone apps that provide detailed audio and text summaries of classic literature for educational purposes. The apps are written by university-level professors, and are intended to allow study of a chosen book while on the go. EngLits provide students with full story summaries, including all central characters and events.
Each book gets its own app, and over 50 titles are presently available, including A Christmas Carol, Great Expectations, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, Pride & Prejudice, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Othello and Gulliver's Travels. Each EngLit features embedded audio and scalable text; notes can be added to any page, and the last page read is remembered.
EngLits run on both the iPhone and second-generation iPod touch. The cost is $6 per app.
