AT&T experiencing 3G outages? [U]

Scattered accounts indicate that AT&T may be experiencing new outages in its 3G network, in areas such as Boston and the general Michigan and Hawaii areas. In at least several circumstances the affected customers have been iPhone owners, who may be unable to receive any phone calls or notifications, regardless of the stated strength of the connection. The only way to begin receiving calls again may involve disabling 3G, limiting data functions to AT&T's 2G EDGE network.

One Michigan subscriber claims that AT&T technicians are blaming the problem on the iPhone, rather than the network, pointing to a rash of "sudden" iPhone 3G failures. No other accounts of device errors have been mentioned however, and many AT&T subscribers are reporting service as usual. The iPhone is known to have ongoing broadband issues, but users are still typically able to receive calls, even if they may be forced off of 3G periodically.

The interruptions in Hawaii allegedly began Thursday morning. The problems were blamed on a power issue at a Mililani facility that contained switching equipment. Although the outage affected AT&T customers statewide, the technicians were able to remedy the situation and restore service before the evening.

Actually, it’s not just 3G or the iPhone. My BB Curve won’t get an EDGE signal at all. My iPhone is actually on 3G just fine.
