Thought Out announces iPhone/Touch car mount
Thought Out has announced the PED3-Auto, a rotating car mount for the iPhone 3G or iPod touch. A five-inch flexible steel neck is used for device positioning, while the holder rotates 360 degrees to change orientation. Owners can also adjust the device-gripping fingers for a customized fit.
The package includes a double-sided adhesive pad that is claimed to stick to any hard plastic surface. A screw-mount is also provided for a more secure hold. The PED3-Auto is priced at $50, and can be purchased directly from the company. A flexible neck extension and a cup holder that attaches to the mount should be available soon.

Too Expensive
I've wanted something just like this for a while now... but $50? For just a holder, not even providing electronics or charging? Seriously?
Cup holder
I'd emailed them about a cup holder accessory--which is what I really want, and whether there would be any package-deal discount. Their response:
"The CupHolder is least a month away and there will not be a package cost savings . The Cup Holder will be $16-$25."
Too bad. $66 to $75 for a cupholder-based Touch mount is way overpriced, IMHO.
hmm.
i got something that is functionally identical... though with a suction cup base.
worked great for a 10,000 mile roadtrip i went on (haven\'t needed it since then really).
i think it was $15. shipped from HK and they have $1 dock cables and other various widgets too.
found it. http://www.usbfever.com
in the bike/car mount section.
not the best quality in the universe. but like i said... worked great. stayed sunctioned. and i was fiddling/rotating/removing iphone with it daily.
Know it...
I had a similar device that I, unfortunately, used as a bike mount. The Touch bounced right out of it.
I had this device from Belkin

back when I had a Mini, and it was perfect--for my needs, at least. Too bad they never came out with a version that will fit the Touch.
The way my car is set up, I'd need the cupholder variety. The PED3 may be far higher quality than the knockoffs, but I just can't see spending $75 to have my Touch sitting upright.
