iPod, iPhone vendors may abandon Macworld for CES

iPod vendors look to CES

The effort to put on Macworld 2010 may have taken a hit today, as an editorial claims that the vast majority of iPod- and iPhone-related companies in contact with iLounge are looking to move to the Consumer Electronics Show instead. The move would be a serious blow not only to Macworld, but to organizer IDG and other vendors dependent on traffic.

Apple's sudden announcement that it was leaving Macworld and the economic downturn are believed to be the two major factors in companies looking elsewhere. The businesses have witnessed shows like Macworld Boston, Apple Expo Paris and Mac Expo London fail without Apple's ability to lure in crowds, in turn leading to wasted time and money for vendors.

It is also believed that CES has the strength of trade and media presence, which could afford iPod and iPhone vendors the best opportunity to reach customers and gain exposure for new products. A concern in moving to the tradeshow would be keeping vendors together physically, given CES' sprawling show floors.

Although Apple has not officially commented regarding any plans to attend CES next year, the Consumer Electronics Association has confirmed an Apple-centric area at its next show. The announcement could further contribute to the migration of vendors from the San Francisco event to Las Vegas.

Why would all the little fleas stay put once the dog has gotten up to nap in a different spot?

In other news, as more and more electronic devices begin to offer iPod/iPhone compatibility, CES is to be renamed to iiCES, or "iPod/iPhone Consumer Electronics show"
